Pimples On Face

There is a difference, though very subtle, between pimples on face and acne. To understand this, we need to know how acne develops.

Natural oil called Sebum is produced by glands called sebaceous glands located under the layers of our skin. Our pores allow Sebum to flow freely onto the skin. If sebaceous glands produce too much Sebum it will dry out before all will be purged out from the skin. This will cause the pores to be blocked. Sebum will start to accumulate and will result as a small bump on the skin called whiteheads. Dried sebum will become old and brown. This is what we called blackheads.

Sebaceous glands will not stop producing sebum and the small bump will become cyst, pimples. Bacteria on the surface of the skin will build up on the cyst and infect it thus creating an unsightly red pimple with pus.

Sebaceous glands producing more Sebum than it should could be caused by an abnormal reaction to male hormone called testosterone. At puberty, both male and female produces an increases amount of this hormone.

Acne infection started at the clogging of Sebum in the pores of your skin. So basically, once clogging starts, it is already acne. Pimples are just the appearance of the acne on our face. But a pimple breakout is simply called acne.
